Inter Miami arrive in excellent domestic form, unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions with six wins and a draw, and sitting on 38 points from an 11-2-5 MLS record that has them second in the Eastern Conference. Atlético de San Luis arrive with almost nothing in the way of momentum. Diego Mejía’s side have opened the Apertura with two draws and a defeat, leaving them 15th in the Liga MX table with just two points, and they remain without a single win in their last four matches across all competitions. San Luis have never advanced beyond the group stage in either of their previous two Leagues Cup appearances, though they have shown they can compete with better sides, having posted credible performances against both Cruz Azul and Tigres this season. João Pedro is ruled out through injury, while Benjamín Galdames, Juanpe, and Jesús Medina are fitness doubts.
Players to Watch
Messi’s return is the obvious headline, and with Suárez unavailable the entire tournament, the Argentine’s creative and goalscoring burden only increases — he has 13 goals in all competitions already this season and will be looking to open his Leagues Cup account in style. For San Luis, 23-year-old midfielder Juan Manuel Torres carries much of the visitors’ hopes of springing an upset, needing a big performance to give Mejía’s side any foothold against a Miami side expected to dominate possession and funnel play through Messi in central areas.

The gap between these two sides is about as wide as the Leagues Cup group stage produces this year. Miami have never lost at home in the competition and have won six of their seven all-time meetings with Mexican opposition, while San Luis arrive winless in four and short on both form and squad depth. Polymarket backs that gap heavily, giving Inter Miami a 71% chance of victory against just 14% for San Luis. Even without Suárez, expect Messi and a well-rested Miami side to open their title defence with a comfortable win.
